Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations are wrapping up around the district. Diggs-Latham Elementary School had their Grand Fiesta Finale full of traditional dances and dishes, and East Forsyth High School marked their Hispanic Heritage Expo with games, arepas, Spanish lessons, and the Quinceañera walk. We hope everyone has had a fun and informative month!

Unity Day

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

As we continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, Ms. Sledge’s 4th grade Art TAG group created tissue paper Mexican flowers.

Ms. Sarraga and her 4th graders concluded their unit on fossils as part of their study of Earth History. They created their own fossils as well as played claves with an orchestra to represent the sound and form of fossils.

Dance Teacher, Ms. K Allison, and her 4th grade TAG Students had the pleasure of working with a dancer with the Winston-Salem Festival Ballet for an intensive workshop.

UNCSA ArtistCorps serving in Band and Orchestra classes help provide small group instruction to students as different instrument sections prepare for upcoming performances.

The “Vivaldi Program” through the UNCSA ArtistCorps Program provides beginning, music instruction for PreK students using violins.

We are pleased to announce that we had 42 students exhibiting art in this year’s Carolina Classic Fair student exhibit. We are so proud of our student artists and Art Teacher, Ms. Sledge. This exhibit earned 3 ribbons as well.

As their culminating project for Unit 1 in Wonders, DLI 2nd grade teacher, Ms. Yepes, and ESL Teacher, Mrs. Ochoa, led students through a Readers’ Theater with puppets for fluency practice, review of overall story structure, and understanding how characters respond to events. Today, they performed in Spanish; tomorrow they will perform in English.
