Poet Laureate

Atkins HS Poet Laureate Jordan Samuels performed on the morning of Wednesday, April 9 at the Career Center HS media center for attendees from Leadership Winston-Salem. The group was made up of 65 business leaders and professionals from around the Forsyth County area.

His audience was rivetted to his performance of his Poet Laureate poem, which he will perform again Thursday evening at 6 pm at the WSFCS Poet Laureate competition.

Leadership Winston-Salem members have monthly meetings with different topics, and this month's meeting was "Education."

Samuels also commented on his future plans. His college choices are still undecided but he says, "My top choice is Howard, but I'm still trying to sort through my options." He also said that he plans to major in Economics to study historical examples of black communities that lost their identities and died out due to gentrification, with the hopes of studying the economic conditions to prevent similar cases from happening again in black communities across America.

Samuels was greeted by much applause all around.

Wish him well as he competes this Thursday.
