As a result of severe weather having already caused multiple cancellations during the return to Atkins HS for its second semester, new plans are being established to prevent future learning loss through the implementation of remote learning days. All Atkins students are expected to complete assignments for each course asynchronously, whether that be on Canvas or as a paper copy for students without internet access, on days when in-person classes cannot be held.
For students with internet access on remote learning days, an announcement on Canvas will be posted by each teacher providing relevant information and assignments. Students without reliable internet access must inform their teachers prior to any anticipated remote learning days to ensure paper copies of all required assignments can be received. All students are expected to complete provided assignments on remote learning days on time by submitting work by the Canvas due date if working online.
Multiple courses of action are currently being discussed in order to address the learning time lost through previous school cancellations, though a decision has not yet been reached. Proposed options include adding fifteen minutes to the beginning and end of each school day beginning in February or extending the school year by adding days of instruction.
