APPLY for Merit Scholarships
Merit-based financial aid is awarded to students based on merit, such as scholastic success, athletic and artistic ability/talent, or community service-related achievement.  There are many resources that students and families can use to access information about merit-based financial aid, usually referred to as scholarships. Students and parents should read the Scholarship and Financial Aid section on college and university websites for merit scholarship opportunities and the process/deadlines for applying.  The largest merit scholarships are awarded from colleges and universities.

RJR Scholarship Update - Newsletter
The RJR Scholarship Update will be published on the website and sent via email to seniors and their parents frequently, usually once a month. Sometimes new information or reminders about scholarship programs are sent to student and parent email addresses.  Students should regularly check their school and personal email.  Read the details about each scholarship carefully and follow the directions to apply or seek a scholarship nomination.  Most scholarship opportunities will lead you to a website to access more information and the application process.  Always read carefully to know how to apply.  Mrs. Beale and/or your school counselor welcome your questions. If you need a scholarship application printed or need to drop off to RJR or pick up any items related to scholarships and financial aid, you may communicate with your school counselor.

APPLY for Financial Aid
Need-based financial aid is awarded to students based on the income and other financial information about the home where the student resides.  Students and parents/guardians must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility for most need-based financial aid (Student AID)The FAFSA for the 24-25 school year opens for students and parents to complete December 2023.

A good resource for students and parents to understand financial aid is Student AID. Some colleges and universities also require the CSS/Financial Aid Profile (register at CSS Profile) or their own institutional form to determine eligibility for non-federal financial aid. Only complete the CSS Profile if schools you are applying to require it. Students and parents should review all financial aid information on college and university websites for requirements, processes, and deadlines.
