RJ Reynolds High School alumni are VERY supportive of their Alma Mater!

At the vast majority of high schools in this county...and in this state...and in this country: the alumni are rarely involved with their high school.  However, at RJ Reynolds High School that is certainly NOT the case!

Each Spring, for 16 consecutive years, there have been three different $1,000 awards given out by the RJ Reynolds High School Alumni and Friends organization: two $1,000 scholarships and a $1,000 cash gift to the staff member voted by their peers as the Teacher of the Year. ..and in 2017 and 2018, a $1,000 gift was given to the Principal of the Year awardee.

The two $1,000 scholarships have been awarded to deserving RJR seniors planning on attending college. “Deserving students” are those that have not only excelled in the classroom, but who also have had a well-rounded high school experience and who have a financial need for assistance. The awardees of these scholarships are determined by a committee established by the RJR guidance counselors.

The staff member selected as the RJR Teacher of the Year is elected by an anonymous vote of all the Reynolds teachers at the beginning of the school year.

It must be pointed out that the ability to award these scholarships and Teacher of the Year gifts is based solely on the amount of donations received by the RJR Alumni and Friends organization for that purpose.

The endowment the Alumni and Friends organization created in 2023 fully funds the annual payout to the Teacher of the Year.
