Current RJR Alumni Vice-President Harry Corpening in December (while he was still the President) talked with Clare Jordan. She was instrumental in starting what became known as the Demon Pantry 14 years ago. This project offers free food immediately to any student who comes to school hungry. Harry learned that Reynolds High School today has 34 homeless students, and that there is a social worker hired by the School System that helps these students. That social worker is Lenatte Taylor. On December 17th, he staged a recorded Zoom conversation with her. During that conversation they discussed (among many other things) how these students are identified, and what help they are entitled to receive.

It MUST be pointed out that even though Lanette can offer some things to the homeless students, that leaves a LOT of needs these teenagers have unmet. Financial donations can help meet those needs. If you would like to write a check for such a (tax deductible) donation: make it out to "RJR Alumni" and mail it to: RJR Alumni * PO Box 26172 * Winston-Salem, NC 27114. On the memo-line write in "social worker initiative."

If you have an IRA and are at least 70 1/2 years old, you can use your IRA to make a donation. To learn how, click onto the following image.
