Cook Literacy Model School hosted two celebrations of Black History Month this past week.

The first was a "Read-In" the evening of February 27, where families were invited to read books from the expansive Black history, culture, and own voice collections in the Logan Burke Media Center. Families were then invited to a hot dog dinner, participated in a sing along of "Lift Every Voice and Sing," led by 4th and 5th graders, and families listened to a special story time by Ms. Renee Andrews, a renown local storyteller know as "The Story Lady." Ms. Andrews is a much beloved community member and retired public librarian who gave a riveting presentation of books and songs to our students.

The second was a Black History Wax Museum put on by 4th-5th grade students on February 28th. All classes were invited to walk through the gymnasium, where 4th and 5th graders had set up poster boards projects about famous folks from Black History, and had dressed up and prepared speeches to give in character.

We are very proud of our scholars participation in this event as well and grateful to all the families and volunteers who came out to support our students!
