Transportation
In the past, most magnet students used the magnet shuttle bus service. Juniors and seniors may drive to school with a valid parking pass.
The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools "Magnet Shuttle" Program currently provides shuttle bus routes to all students at Atkins who need bus transportation. This program allows students to remain at their final school delivery location until as late as 6:00 pm each day.
Parents of any students who are not picked up within one hour after their arrival at their final school location will be required to pay a "supervisory fee" of $3.00 per day, payable on a weekly basis at the end of each week. In addition, the parents of any student not picked up by the mandatory time of 6:00 pm will be assessed an additional $10.00 "late" fee. Your student will be given a summary of charges incurred at the end of each week; you may pay these charges in cash or a check made out to the school where you pick up your student.

Current WSFCS students who currently have a bus stop:
If your student is currently a rising 9th grader in the WSFCS District, and you currently have a bus stop, one will be automatically assigned to you. Current WSFCS students will receive their bus stop information for next year at the end of this current school year. If there is an issue, please contact Atkins at that time. Please note that all requests will be updated in July 2023.
Returning or new students to WSFCS who do not have a current bus stop:
Please call 336-703-6754 and ask to speak with Ms. McMillan. Upon request, she will email you a form so that you can request a bus stop for next year. Please note that all requests will be updated in July 2023.
Inclement Weather and Magnet Transportation
When inclement weather hits, all bus routes are affected and will be delayed for whatever time frame (one hour, two hours) is announced by the district. Magnet shuttle buses are no exception.
Since any delay affects the arrival of staff as well as students, then the drop-off and pick-up times will be delayed appropriately. It would not be feasible to have a 6:30 AM drop-off for magnet students when staff and buses will not be arriving until after the delay subsides.
If students are released early due to weather, magnet shuttle parents who typically use afternoon supervision will be contacted and students should be picked up as quickly as possible.
Your cooperation and understanding during severe weather situations are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions regarding these guidelines, please contact Atkins.
