Emphasis is on the use of complex graphic tools, to understand technical, mathematical, scientific, or artistic concepts. Visualization activities may include 2D and 3D graphics using photo editing software. In addition students will explore 2D & 3D animation techniques

The scientific visualization courses expose students to all of the major conceptual areas associated with scientific visualization and give them experience in a broad range of graphic techniques. Unlike many of the graphic techniques covered in the architectural and mechanical areas, scientific visualization techniques are more broadly applicable. Also, because the track is more academic, students focus on theory and operations so they understand why particular graphic techniques are used. The primary areas covered in scientific visualization courses include:

Basic design principles

• Graphing/plotting
• Image processing
• 2-D/3-D modeling
• Animation and simulation
• Presentation and publication.

Prerequisite or Co-requisite:  Common Core Math I. (Students who enter ninth grade needing Foundations of Common Core Math 1 will take Common Core Math 1 and Sci. Vis. I during the second semester.)
