Creative Writing

This class will improve your writing skills, whether you consider yourself a skilled writer or not. We will frequently produce work that is not traditional "school" writing, and that includes creative writing. But don’t be fooled. This is not just a creative writing course; that term sometimes carries the connotation that it has no place in the real-world or no real purpose. The writing skills you learn in this class will apply to all the writing you do -- in life, in school, or producing the next great American novel.

Although this is an elective course, that doesn’t mean that we won’t work hard and learn as much as we can. I would rather be productive and learn as much as possible, becoming better writers in the process. I hope you feel the same way, too. We all come to this class with different interests, strengths and weaknesses, and backgrounds, but we should all share one thing in common--the desire to become better writers. Regardless of their talents and achievements, the best writers (or best anything) always strive to be better. I think we all need to have that positive attitude in order to succeed in this class. Writing in this class will also get published in our school's online literary magazine and even entered into local and regional contests!
