John F. Kennedy High School kicked off this year’s grand opening for Allegacy Federal Credit Union from March 27-28 during lunch and Title I Night.
JFK is one of several high schools in the district that Allegacy works with to operate student-run credit unions, which offer students a safe and convenient place to open their first bank accounts, as well as a good chance to start thinking about how they’ll manage their money once they graduate and enter the workforce. SRCUs also offer experience in the banking profession to students who lend their services to their branch.
This year's theme was “Cash, Karaoke and Candy”. Students and staff enjoyed karaoke singing and dancing, and received gift cards and candy for opening bank accounts.
The pathway to financial freedom starts with opening a bank account. Students will always remember when they opened their first bank account, and they’re ecstatic when they see money being directly deposited from internships into their bank accounts.
On April 23, student bankers will participate in Financial Football at LJVM Coliseum and meet a famous football player from the Carolina Panthers.
JFK has been recognized for opening the most bank accounts in the district for several years. A former student banker was just awarded an Allegacy scholarship.
