City Plans Closure of Roads Near Fairgrounds During Spring Graduations

People attending WS/FCS graduation ceremonies this spring will likely encounter heavier than normal traffic, road closures, and rerouting. This City of Winston-Salem and Wake Forest University are constructing new buildings and demolishing old ones along Deacon Boulevard and areas surrounding the WS Fairgrounds and LJVM Coliseum where numerous ceremonies will be held.

Officials are asking those attending a WS/FCS graduation at the LJVM Coliseum or the Fairgrounds Arena to plan ahead. Making plans now will help ease congestion and make traffic flow more smoothly. Officials offer the following advice:

  • Look for less traditional routes to the area using U.S. 52 to 27th or 30th Streets and Shorefair Drive. Deacon Blvd. will be closed from University Pkwy. to Piccolo Lane.

  • Plan to enter the venues through gates on University Parkway or 27th Street.

  • Plan to arrive at least an hour ahead of the scheduled event.

  • Carpool with more high occupancy vehicles.

  • Consider public transportation. WSTA runs regular routes to the Coliseum area.

The WS/FCS graduations that will be affected are listed on the following page. They will take place at the LJVM Coliseum at 2825 University Parkway or the Fairgrounds Arena at 414 Deacon Boulevard. Other ceremonies will not be affected. For the full 2025 WS/FCS Graduation Schedule, visit our website.
