Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools will host informational sessions for parents of current eighth graders this week about how to help your student plan for their future with Naviance.
Naviance is a “college, career, and life readiness” software that WS/FCS high schoolers have been using for the past several years. Through the software, students can take career aptitude tests, submit college applications, browse scholarships, learn about different career clusters, and more.
North Carolina recently adopted a law that will require eighth graders to have career development plans, which will also be managed through Naviance for WS/FCS. Career development plans are helpful tools for students trying to get the most out of their time in high school. Having a plan can guide which classes you choose to take and give you a clearer idea of the jobs you might pursue after graduation.
Lead Counselor Felicia Tubbs wants parents to know what Naviance can offer them as well. The parent portal for the software allows them to view their student’s activities, which Tubbs says encourages better conversations about the student’s goals. She hopes the information sessions will set students and their families up for success when they’re new to Naviance.
“It’s extremely important that they can work on this together,” Tubbs said. “It helps build stronger relationships with parents and helps the student determine what they want to do.”
Parents of eighth graders can log in to the Naviance parent portal starting today. Virtual information sessions are being held on Tuesday, December 17 at 5:30 pm and on Wednesday, December 18 at 12 pm via Microsoft Teams. Those interested in attending can scan the QR codes in the adjacent flyer. No registration is required.
