The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education approved a $750 appreciation supplement for employees during their meeting on Tuesday night.
Following a shooting incident that occurred near Reynolds High School on Tuesday afternoon, the board members agreed to shorten their meeting agenda out of respect for the circumstances. As a result, most of their discussion items for the evening were postponed until their next meeting on January 14.
However, the board did take time to approve the supplement to make sure it reaches employees before the holidays. All permanent full-time and part-time employees, long-term substitutes, and substitute bus drivers who have worked at least 25 of the last 30 instructional days will receive the $750 supplement. It will be taxed at the regular rate, not as a bonus.
The board members unanimously approved the supplement and thanked the entire district team for going the extra mile this year to support students.
“We are very excited to bring this forward tonight, to be able to compensate our employees from all of our different employee groups right before the holidays,” said Superintendent Tricia McManus. “We’ve got money going back into the hands of people who have taken on additional loads.”
Also on the board’s agenda for the evening were:
A performance by the WS/FCS brass carolers
Recognition of the winners of this year’s holiday card competition
Approval of the 2025 Board of Education meeting calendar, updated instructional hour requirements for the second half of the school year, the conversion to the Infinite Campus student information system for the 2025-26 school year, and several other action items
The Board of Education will meet again on Tuesday, January 14 at 6:30 pm.
