Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools students in need of new clothes will be a lot warmer this winter thanks to the Miller family, who brought in 400 pairs of blue jeans for the district to distribute on Thursday.
Bella and Tiger, both WS/FCS students, wanted to do something to help their classmates in need this season, so the family got in touch with a facility that was able to sell them brand new children’s size pants wholesale. They believed that since most warm clothing drives focus on outerwear, there might be an excess demand for staples like jeans. According to WS/FCS Director of Social Work Sheila Thorp, that estimate was right on the money.
“We always get hats and gloves and jackets and socks,” Thorp said. “This is something we don’t get as much of, and kids need pants too.”
Clifford and Erika Miller are both veteran adoptive and foster parents, having adopted seven children and given another long-term foster care over the past 30 years. Providing for the most vulnerable among them is a value they hold dear to their hearts, and it’s one that they seek to instill in their children. They hope Bella and Tiger will remember how good it felt to make this donation for years to come, and that they’ll feel inspired to keep on giving.
“We’ve always taught them to give back,” Erika said. “That’s always been a family value.”
Thank you so much to Clifford, Tiger, Bella, Erika, and Brenda "Grandma Peaches" Miller for your generous donation!
