Career Fair

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools invited jobseekers to Griffith Elementary School on Thursday morning to check out the jobs available in the district’s operations department.

TablesSignageCareers in operations span a variety of fields, including child nutrition, maintenance, and transportation. In a district as large as WS/FCS, positions for these jobs open up frequently. Employee Recruitment Coordinator Kelly Crisp says that the largest numbers of openings right now are for kitchen assistants (70) and bus drivers (50).

Visitors to the career fair were able to meet their prospective supervisors, fill out some early paperwork, and ask questions about what it’s like to work for the district. Supervisors were encouraged by the number of qualified candidates who began the hiring process through the fair. About 130 jobseekers registered for the event, and they followed through on attending at a higher-than-usual rate, with 65 making it to Griffith in the first hour.

Crisp says that when most people think about working for a school district, they think about teachers and principals. However, there are countless trades and skillsets that go into operating a school, ranging from electrical maintenance to groundskeeping to cooking to plumbing and everything in between. Career fairs are helpful venues for the operations team to remind local jobseekers that their talents are wanted and needed at WS/FCS.

For anyone interested in working for WS/FCS who didn’t make it out to the career fair, there are still plenty of jobs available to apply for online at https://www.wsfcs.k12.nc.us/page/employment-opportunities.
