Following a recent uptick in threats and rumors of violence on social media, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools partnered with local law enforcement agencies for a press event on Thursday afternoon. Here are a few key details to know:
There are no active threats against any schools in the district. If any threats arise, they will be investigated and reported to families immediately.
Every tip that the district or local law enforcement receives about a potential threat is investigated without exception.
WS/FCS is increasing random use of metal detectors in schools this year. A new set of OPENGATE metal detection systems are significantly improving the speed and efficiency of these screenings.
Students, families, and staff are encouraged to report any and all suspicions of threats against schools to the district and to local law enforcement, including through the Say Something app and the Bully Patrol app.
Do not repost threats on social media. This creates additional danger for schools.
