June 10, 2024 – Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy took time ahead of graduation day to recognize its many accomplished seniors with a special awards ceremony.
The Class of 2024 at WSPA has been through a lot together, with many of this year’s graduates having been at the school since they were in sixth grade. They’ve not only tackled the expected rigors of high school, but also had to adapt on the fly to learning through the COVID-19 pandemic. There were plenty of memorable moments along the way, both good and bad, and the awards ceremony was a much-appreciated chance to reflect and acknowledge the meaningful impacts of the last few years.
“I am deeply grateful that we got to spend our senior year together,” said SGA President Aaryn Gabriel. “We’ve made memories that will last a lifetime.”
Over two dozen awards were presented to the group of 20 graduates. Students were recognized for outstanding achievement in academic fields like math, science, English, and social studies, engagement with local civic organizations like Crosby Scholars, the Rotary Club, and Big Brothers Big Sisters, and earning a wide range of scholarships, some of which were sponsored by former graduating classes. That so many groups saw fit to put their resources behind honoring this year’s graduates speaks volumes about the initiative and determination that WSPA has instilled in its students.
“Throughout your time with us, you’ve embodied the spirit of the phoenix, rising above challenges and transforming into the influential, resilient individuals we see before us today,” said Multi-Classroom Leader Beatrice Wilkerson.
While graduation was still yet to come, the awards ceremony was an important opportunity to include underclassmen in the end-of-year festivities. WSPA Principal Dr. Keisha Gabriel believes that the myriad accomplishments of this year’s graduating class should serve as an inspiration for all of the prospective graduates who follow behind them, and seeing their upperclassmen walk the stage and receive special honors for their hard work both in and out of the classroom will give them an extra boost in motivation. This day of celebration was an uplifting experience for the whole WSPA community.
“Today is a day of celebration of your hard work, your dedication, and the remarkable achievements that have brought you to this pivotal moment in your lives,” Gabriel said. “You have set a high bar for future generations, and your legacy will undoubtedly inspire those who follow in your footsteps.”
