Handing Out Cookies

Crowd ShotMay 31, 2024 – Bojangles visited Moore Magnet Elementary School on Friday afternoon to reward students who have completed their End of Grade tests with free Bo-Berry Cookies.

The Smart Cookie Campaign is a new initiative from the fried chicken and biscuits chain that launched this month, just in time for students to finish up their last exams of the year. To reward students who have made significant academic accomplishments in the 2023-24 school year, representatives from local restaurants are delivering big batches of their new Bo-Berry cookies, and offshoot of the restaurant’s famous Bo-Berry biscuit. Bojangles is a big supporter of education and literacy efforts, with the Bojangles Foundation Fund donating more than 92,300 books and $1.8 million to charities in the past two years, and the Smart Cookie Campaign is a new expression of that commitment.

Sticker“We’re just so passionate about raising up the future leaders of our community,” said Bojangles Area Director Carcel Armstrong. “So when we started to promote our new Bo-Berry Cookie, we knew we wanted to do a smart campaign.”

Moore students in third, fourth, and fifth grade finished taking their EOGs on Wednesday and Thursday, and they spent weeks beforehand preparing to put on their best performance possible. Teachers and administrators felt that the students were more than deserving of a sweet treat to celebrate a job well done in this year’s testing cycle. Based on the smiles and cheers that accompanied the lines full of students savoring the first bite of a warm, fresh cookie, the message of appreciation was well received.

Organizers“We just wanted to reward them because we know how much effort they put into their EOGs,” said Principal Justin Marckel. “It’s our way of saying thank you.”

School Finance Manager Angela Potter believes that the cookies are only part of the reward. It was an exciting occasion for the students to take a break from class in the afternoon and get a gift from a local business as a reward for their hard work. Knowing that people outside of the school were cheering them on through the toughest tests of the year is encouraging, and it will motivate them to keep doing their best in school next year.

“It helps them understand that their community is behind them,” Potter said. “It lets them know that everybody around them cares about how well they’re doing in school.”
