May 13, 2024 – The Awards Committee of The North Carolina State Organization of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is pleased to announce that Amanda Gordon has been named a 2024 Rising Star Award recipient for the IX Region. The North Carolina State Organization of Delta Kappa Gamma is comprised of eleven Regions; region IX includes Avery, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany, Wilkes, Yadkin, Surry, Davie, Stokes, and Forsyth Counties.
DKG, founded in 1929, is a professional honor society for women educators with more than 55,000 members. Established in 17 member countries around the world, the Society defines its mission as promoting professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
The Rising Star Award is intended to recognize members who demonstrate exceptional growth in education, leadership, and contributions.
Gordon was inducted into the Delta Psi Chapter of The North Carolina State Organization of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International in April 2022. Gordon serves as the webmaster, photographer, and social media manager for the Delta Psi Chapter. Gordon has also exhibited her original art and photography in the DKG International Gallery Exhibit. As the Rising Star Award recipient for Region IX, Gordon was recognized at the annual state convention, at which she received a certificate and pin with this year’s other ten recipients. During the three-day state convention, Gordon performed with the NC DKG Convention Chorus, attended professional development sessions, and was addressed by keynote speakers such as current North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction Catherine Truitt.
