Puberty Education

Educating fourth and fifth-grade students about puberty equips them with the essential knowledge to understand the physical, emotional, and social changes they are beginning to experience. This stage of life is marked by rapid development, and providing accurate, age-appropriate information helps demystify these changes, reducing confusion and anxiety. Early education fosters a sense of confidence and self-awareness, empowering students to take ownership of their health and well-being. It also promotes empathy and respect for others by helping them understand these changes are natural and universal. By addressing puberty proactively, schools create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning about their growth in a safe and informed way.

Fourth Grade Students

Puberty education helps students learn about the changes their bodies and feelings go through as they grow up. It’s like a guide to understanding why things like growing taller, developing new emotions, or noticing changes in your body happen. This learning helps answer their questions and shows them these changes are completely normal. Puberty education teaches how to care for yourself during this time and helps students feel more confident and prepared for the future.

4th Grade Puberty Education Materials

The attached materials are for the 4th grade puberty education lesson in WS/FCS.  In the PowerPoint presentation, students will view all the slides.  Boys and girls are taught separately in puberty education, but the teacher may or may not be the same gender as the students.

Fifth Grade Students

Puberty education is a way to help students learn about the changes their bodies and emotions go through as they grow up. It explains things like why their body starts to look and feel different, why they might experience new emotions, and how to take care of themselves during this time. These lessons help them understand what’s happening and how to prepare them for the future so they can feel more confident and know these changes are a normal part of growing up and becoming an adult.

Below are the materials that should be used with the 5th-grade puberty education instruction in WS/FCS. This instruction is provided in separate gender settings, but the teacher may or may not be the same gender as the students. This material is usually taught for 45-60 minutes at a time over a 4-5 day timeframe. These materials are directly aligned with the puberty education standards from the NC Standard Course of Study for 5th grade.
