Online Learning FAQ
1. How much technology skills do I need to take an online course?
Students should be able to use a computer keyboard and mouse.
Students must have a computer and internet access at school and at home.
Students should be able to create, save and print documents.
Students should be able to access and navigate the Internet.
Students should be able to send and receive email, and attach files.
Students do not have to be a "techie" to take an online course.
2. Should I have certain study habits to be successful in an online course?
Students should have strong reading and comprehension skills.
Students should be able to express their thoughts and ideas in writing.
Students should be able to monitor their progress, keep up with assignments and meet course deadlines.
Students should always practice good "Netiquette" when communicating with other students or instructors.
3. How much time do I need to be successful with online courses?
Students should be able to devote a significant amount of time to studying and completing assignments.
A summer course requires 3 to 5 hours of work per day Monday through Friday. A fall or spring semester course requires 90 minutes of work per day Monday through Friday. A year long course requires 1 hour of work per day Monday through Friday.
Students should check their schedules to make sure they have enough time for an online course.
Students should have a personal space for studying free from distractions.
Students should have reliable Internet access at home.
Students cannot use their phone to complete the assignments in the course.
Students cannot use a tablet to complete the assignments in the course.
