New Teacher Induction
Overview
The Office of New Teacher Induction supports all Beginning Teachers in our district through the implementation of our Beginning Teacher Support Plan.
The Office of New Teacher Induction oversees beginning teacher support and the induction process. This begins with a three-day orientation for all new teachers (and 10-day for all residency license teachers). Following the orientation, the Office of New Teacher Induction is responsible for ongoing coaching sessions with beginning teachers and content and pedagogical professional development.
Program Goal
The goal of the Office of New Teacher Induction is to provide ongoing support and guidance to beginning teachers in years 1-3 in an effort to recruit and retain the best teachers in our district. Through continuous professional development and coaching support, we work to build the instructional capacity of our beginning teachers to become effective and competent leaders in their classroom.
The Office of New Teacher Induction aligns all actions with the five Beginning Teacher Support Program Standards as outlined by Policy TCED-016. These standards include:
Systematic Support for High Quality Induction Programs
Mentor Selection, Development, and Support
Mentoring for Instructional Excellence
Beginning Teacher Professional Development
Formative Assessment of Candidates and Programs
Mentors
Mentor selection and development is a critical component of beginning teacher support. The Office of New Teacher Induction works closely with principals to ensure high quality mentors are selected and meet the criteria for this leadership role. We provide ongoing professional development for mentors including coaching and mentoring best practices. Mentor logs are monitored and audited to ensure mentors are working within the five mentor standards.
