Accessing Exceptional Children Services in WS/FCS

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is committed to achieving our district vision to engage all students in high-quality, relevant learning experiences by ensuring WS/FCS is the best place to learn and work through excellence, collaboration and inclusiveness.  WS/FCS is intent on creating and maintaining inclusive school communities for our students with disabilities with the goal of improved student outcomes and more opportunities for our students with disabilities to learn without having to leave their residential schools and peers.

Individual Education Program (IEP) teams consider the type of services the student will receive based on the specific area(s) of need. The frequency, duration, and location of services, to the maximum extent appropriate with non-disabled peers, are intentionally selected for the student to have the opportunity to achieve his/her annual goals.

WS/FCS provides special education and related services according to the federal mandates of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the regulations of the North Carolina Public School Law Article 9

Services are provided for students identified in one or more of the 14 disability categories and related services and supports are provided as needed for the student to benefit from special education.
