World Language

The WS/FCS system is a leader in North Carolina with regard to World Language education. With various offerings for dual language immersion and eight language programs at the middle and high school levels, WS/FCS is at the forefront of progressive language education and there is something for everyone. The World Language programs are designed to help students learn to communicate in languages other than English, to gain socio-cultural competence, and to gain skills that are beneficial for the workplace and beyond.  View this bulletin to learn more about World Languages in WS/FCS, and why learning another language is so important.

The WS/FCS World Language program is guided by the district's Framework for Teaching and Learning. We strive to provide culturally responsive and effective instruction, using research-based strategies for languages. The Framework components guide decisions regarding resources, professional development, and assessment.

Additionally, the WS/FCS World Language program contributes to the district's mission and strategic goals. Dual language immersion programs have been proven to close gaps and raise achievement for all students. Research shows that students who study languages score higher on standardized tests than those who do not. Language study teachers teach learners to appreciate other cultures and to interact respectfully with all individuals. Gaining high levels of language proficiency gives our students the ability to contribute to and compete in our global society.
