Student Chromebook Program

Student Chromebook Program

Program Information

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools will begin a 1:1 student device program in the 2021-2022 school year.  All students in grades 3-12 will recieve a Chromebook to use for classroom and remote instruction.  Chromebooks are an instructional resource that will empower students to access online instructional materials from anywhere at any time.

Students participating in the program are provided a Chromebook, charging adapter, and a protective case. Unless otherwise instructed, students in the 1:1 program will be expected to bring their Chromebook (fully charged) to school every day. There is no need to bring charging adapters to school as charging stations will be available in each school.

Chromebooks remain the property of WS/FCS and is provided on loan to WS/FCS students. Students will receive a new Chromebook when they enter the 3rd, 6th, and 9th grades. Students are expected to return the loaned Chromebook at the end of their 5th, 8th, and 12th grade year, or when they withdraw from WS/FCS (whichever comes first).  WS/FCS will start 2021-2022 with a mixture of both new and previously used Chromebooks that will be assigned to students based on grade level.

Students are responsible for the general care of the Chromebook, charging adapter, and protective case. Students and families are expected to follow all directives, policies, and care guidelines provided by WS/FCS and their teacher.

Program Requirements

A device agreement will need to be signed by a parent or guardian each time a student receives a new Chromebook from WS/FCS (3rd, 6th, and 9th grades).

  • Families can opt-out of this program if they do not wish to participate.  Chromebooks will be available for these students to use during the school day but those opting out will not be allowed to take Chromebooks home.
