Dual Language Immersion

Dual Language Immersion (DLI) is an exciting opportunity for WS/FCS students! Our DLI programs are based on the Guiding Principles for Dual Language Immersion, 3rd Edition (Center for Applied Linguistics, 2018). As such, the program goals for all students are bilingualism, biliteracy, high academic achievement, and sociocultural competence. For more information regarding DLI and the available programs, please see the "DLI Program Information" page.

The WS/FCS DLI programs are guided by the district's Framework for Teaching and Learning. We strive to provide culturally responsive and effective instruction, using research-based strategies for languages. The Framework components guide decisions regarding resources, professional development, and assessment.

Additionally, the WS/FCS DLI programs contributes to the district's mission and strategic goals. Dual language immersion programs have been proven to close gaps and raise achievement for all students. Research shows that students who study languages score higher on standardized tests than those who do not. Language study teaches learners to appreciate other cultures and to interact respectfully with all individuals. Gaining high levels of language proficiency gives our students the ability to contribute to and compete in our global society.
