You should consider becoming a Lead Mentor (you do not have to be a Teacher Academy Teacher Leader to qualify) if you are:

  • A classroom teacher wanting to be more impactful on your entire school community.

  • Willing to organize professional development for groups of mentors and mentees.

  • Capable of communicating effectively with a wide variety of school stake holders

  • A champion for your school and school community.

And you have:

  • Three years of successful teaching in our district.

  • Ratings of proficient or higher on your most recent summative evaluation in all five standards, or standards 1-4 on an abbreviated cycle.

  • Documentation of completed mentor training since 2010.

What a Lead Mentor does:

  • Delivers school based new teacher orientation before school starts

  • Informs the Teacher Leadership Coordinator when a mentor is assigned or changed.

  • Facilitates site-based meetings with mentors/BTs at the beginning of the school year to introduce the online meeting logs, review expectations for the BT and Mentors, and discuss other school-based expectations and/or procedures, as necessary.

  • Assists potential mentors with registration and completion of the DPI Online Mentoring course, or face-to-face mentor training.

  • Attends site-based and district professional development activities as required

  • Works with Teacher Leadership Coordinator in determining the needs of the mentors and serves as liaison
