Overview

WS/FCS received generous funding from the Wallace Foundation to establish an equity-centered principal pipeline. This pipeline serves to ensure that we employ highly effective educators to lead our schools.

The Talent Acquisition Process (TAP) serves to identify qualified candidates for the assistant principal talent pool. Candidates must demonstrate proficient leadership competencies as outlined in the WS/FCS Equity-Driven Leadership Framework linked
here

Eligibility

To qualify for the assistant principal talent pool, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold or be able to hold current NC Administrator Licensure

  • Have a minimum of 3 years of teaching/educational experience

  • Have a favorable supervisor recommendation

  • Received ratings of at least “Proficient” on all standards on most recent summative evaluation

  • Successfully complete the Readiness Assessments, scored blindly by a panel of current administrators

  • Successfully complete the Interview, scored by a panel of current administrators

Current assistant principals receive ongoing, job-embedded professional development:

  • Support

    • Year 1: WS/FCS Induction and Mentorship programs through LEAP Induction for New Administrators

    • Year 2: Appalachian State University Leadership Academy for select candidates

    • Year 3: UNC-Greensboro Equity-Focused Leadership

      Academy (EFLA) for select candidates

  • Monthly District Assistant Principal Meetings

  • Upcoming Opportunity

    • High Point University is launching its Leadership Academy in Fall 2025, offering a paid M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and a full-release administrative internship—a unique pathway to prepare future school leaders. WS/FCS partners with High Point University, Appalachian State University and UNC-Greensboro to offer highly qualified candidates interested in pursuing a master’s degree in school administration and administrative licensure.
