AP Language and Composition
Students in AP English Language and Composition will focus on skillfully reading prose in a variety of rhetorical contexts. They will write for a variety of purposes, developing an awareness of a writer’s purpose. They will read complex nonfiction texts and write argumentative, rhetorical analysis, and synthesis essays. Students will engage with outside sources in their reading and writing as they synthesize information to write coherent and well-developed arguments.
AP Language and Composition is offered to juniors in high school. Although there are no prerequisites for this course, students will need a strong background in both critical reading and writing. Students enrolled in this course will take the AP exam in May for the opportunity to earn college credit.
