I am Sandra Gilmer and I have been the principal at The Special Children’s School for the past 12 years.  I have enjoyed working with special needs children throughout my career in education at the preschool, elementary, middle, high school, and adult levels.  Throughout my years as an educator, I have worked in a variety of roles serving children and families as a teacher assistant, classroom teacher, curriculum coordinator, parent educator, professional development trainer, assistant principal, and school principal.  I have worked as a school administrator for over 20 years. 

While I have loved and learned from every job I have held, serving as the principal at The Special Children’s School has been the greatest honor and the highlight of my career.  There is nothing more rewarding than being able to lead a school staff and a school program that makes amazing things happen every day.  It is such a pleasure to work with the families and children at our school because we build relationships and create a “school family” that truly serves the needs of our children.   This is a school that believes in the power of high expectations, hard work, and teamwork.  Excellence happens when we all work together.  Please know that I am here to support you in any way I can as you take this journey with us into the world of educational possibilities and opportunities for your child at The Special Children’s School.
