Criteria - Candidates for membership must be a junior or senior
Completed and/or currently enrolled in at least five courses in the field of social studies
Juniors must be prepared to complete at least two additional courses.
At least half of the courses should be at or above honors level.
The minimum grade point average for these courses is an unweighted 3.50.
The candidate's overall cumulative high school GPA shall be a minimum of unweighted 3.50.
No discipline referrals
Students must also exhibit leadership and a commitment to school and community service.
Selection Process - Students must meet the requirements above, complete a self-evaluation, list leadership positions, service to school and community, and a teacher recommendation. Then a committee of social studies teachers will use a rubric to score students and decide who meets the requirements and who does not.
How are students notified? - Letter
Additional Comments- Students must maintain a 3.5 GPA, will be required to attend 65% of meetings, and required to attend a minimum of one Civic Engagement Event per semester to maintain membership. The Rho Kappa officers and advisors will provide one Civic Engagement Event each quarter, providing two opportunities per semester. Seniors maintaining their membership must be enrolled in at least 2 social studies courses. EPF and one other.
