What Counselors do

What does the school counselor do?

  • Help with assessments

  • Help with emergencies

  • Talk with children who are sad

  • Talk with children about how they have had a loss of any kind

  • Help children that are being bullied

  • Work with children to help them in class

  • Help children that need glasses find solutions

  • Help children that are hungry find food

  • Help children that need clothes find them

  • Talk with teachers to help find classroom solutions for students having difficulty staying focused

  • Plan and implement special events…(career day, transportation day, read-ins…)

  • Present workshops for staff and parents

  • Sit in on parent meetings

  • Transport parents and students when needed

  • Help parents with struggling students

  • Work with Assistant Principal on due process

  • Assist the principal in different capacities

  • Review files for medical assessments

  • Administer Vanderbilt assessment when necessary

  • Administer the KEB-T /KAT-E when necessary

  • Etc.
