PTA Job Descriptions
The Advocacy Committee informs the membership about education issues and North Carolina PTA legislative goals and help the members become effective advocates.
The At-Large Committee represents several smaller communities within our school, including K-2 families, 3-5 families, and EC families.
The Audit Committee’s purpose is to monitor the treasurer and insure that the PTA does not commit massive embezzlement fraud. There is currently a strong team of 3 and do not have further volunteer needs.
The Communications Committee exists to help foster connection and communication between the PTA and the Jefferson Elementary School student families. They seek to be direct, accessible, and welcoming in all communications.
The Advocacy Committee cultivates awareness and sensitivity to overlooked or marginalized communities. They actively work to dismantle implicit bias and systemic inequity.
The 5th grade committee’s goal is to ensure that our 5th grade students and teachers are supported so that our outgoing JES Panthers have a fun and memorable year. We will be looking for volunteers to serve as room reps for each 5th grade class to help us with this mission.
The JES Fundraising Committee seeks to support the Jefferson PTA by coordinating and running its fundraising efforts in a way that is relational, positive in tone, and sensitive to our student body's diverse socioeconomic background.
The Grant Writing Committee researches and applies for grants that match fundraising and school needs.
The Membership Committee develops and oversees a coordinated effort to include all families and staff in the JES PTA.
The Multicultural Festival is where families are invited to school to share elements of their culture with other members of the school through arts, food, dance & many other things that make cultures unique.
The Nominating Committee intentionally recruits PTA Board Members that are representative of the JES student body and presents a slate to the General PTA at the end of each school year.
The goal of reading Buddies is to promote whole and small group reading activities and to encourage the love of reading.
The Reflections Committee executes the National PTA Reflections program at JES to promote creativity and individual expression.
A Room Representative supports the connection between parents/guardians and the classroom teacher. They support the teacher in needs that may arise, such as requests for supplies and volunteers.
The School Improvement Team (SIT) focuses the school on student performance and a process of continuous school improvement that involves and informs all members of the school community in this work. One parent representative participates in monthly meetings.
Staff Appreciation Committee organizes events for the staff and is a great way to express our gratitude to our teachers and staff. This committee will require volunteers as and when events come up.
The Talent Show Committee organizes and presents a virtual talent show that is accessible to all students to participate and representative of the JES student body.
The Volunteer Coordinator Committee exists to ensure a robust list of screened volunteers who have completed the registration and background check process. We also help identify volunteers for different committee's volunteer opportunities.
The WatchDOGS Committee recruits adult males from our school and community to come into school for the day to serve as role models and volunteers.
The Yearbook Committee seeks to capture photos of events and moments throughout the school year and create a yearbook to compile and share those memories.

If you have completed this in previous years, simply login, verify the information and submit. If you are new to the system, click the “New Volunteer” link to get started.
Volunteer Clearance
It is very important for the safety of our students that every volunteer (whether parent, grandparent, or family friend) register and receive clearance to volunteer at our school. The school cannot allow you to volunteer if you have not been cleared by WSFCS.
New Volunteers
If you have not submitted an online volunteer application using the current system, please click here, then choose the "New Volunteer? Click Here to Register" link located on the online registration page. After you submit your completed application, the system will send you an automated e-mail from “Email Verification.” You must open the e-mail and click on the link in order to activate your application so it can be processed for approval.
Returning Volunteers
If you were previously registered and cleared to volunteer in this current registration system, use the login/password you created to access your inactive application to re-activate it for clearance this school year. Do not register as a new volunteer; the system will not allow duplicate applications. Click here to access the login page; enter your login and password, then click the “login” button to open your current application. You will receive an email from “Email Clearance” notifying you when you have been cleared for volunteering.
