Gifted Education

At Hanes we offer two accelerated curriculums: one for Highly Academically Gifted (HAG) students and one for Academically Gifted (AG) students.  Hanes Magnet is currently the only middle school in WSFCS who serves HAG students.  Any AG student in our school district may attend Hanes for our accelerated program.

The HAG curriculum is accelerated two years above the students' current grade level.  Students in the HAG program receive high school credit for Math 1, Math 2, and Earth/Environmental Science upon successful completion.  If students take a foreign language for three consecutive years and pass the EOC, they may earn a high school credit for German I, Latin I or Spanish I.

The AG curriculum is accelerated one year above the students' current grade level.  Students in the AG program receive high school credit for Math 1.  If students take a foreign language for three consecutive years and pass the EOC, they may earn a high school credit for  German I, Latin I or Spanish I.

The majority of our students are gifted learners; therefore, our teachers specialize in gifted instruction.  We are continuously focused on developing a rigorous curriculum that is relevant and meaningful to the gifted child.  Our teachers also receive ongoing training and professional development to better understand the emotional and social needs of gifted learners.
