This is the website for Ms. Mouzon, the school counselor at Gibson Elementary School. The Counselor's Corner will help you know what services are available at Gibson for the scholars and families through our developmental school counseling program. Mrs. Shear works with all of the scholars. Feel free to speak with us about your child or your concerns.
School Counseling Program
We are excited about being able to provide counseling services for the scholars and families of Gibson Elementary. As the school has grown, our children's needs have also grown. We counsel children both individually and in small groups. Children may refer themselves or teachers and parents may refer children. We work closely with community agencies to help children and families and coordinate services if your child changes schools. If you have a request of your school counselors, please call Ms. Mouzon at 703-4212 or email Mrs. Shear.
Classroom Guidance
This year Ms. Mouzon will teach classroom guidance sessions for all scholars. They introduce and work with the children on such topics as appreciating yourself and your talents, interpersonal relationships, study skills, decision-making, learning about the world of work/careers, conflict resolution skills, how to deal with bullying behavior, listening and following directions.
Academically Intellectually Gifted Screening
The Winston Salem Forsyth County School System screens all second graders for possible placement in the AIG program in third grade. Screenings of second graders occurred in late fall and we are in the process of re-screening scholars who qualified to continue with the identification process. Scholars are screened for their aptitude to determine their eligibility for further achievement screening for placement. Ms. Shear is the AIG Coordinator this school year.
Registration for Middle School
We will begin registering students for their middle school classes after the school choice period is over in February. After we have received their school assignments, we will review the elective classes with the fifth grade scholars and they will bring a registration card home for your input and approval. The cards will be coming home during the first few weeks in March. Please call us if you have any questions.
