Assistant Principal

Hello Flyers!  My name is Melissa Anderson, Assistant Principal at Flat Rock Middle School.  I am a proud graduate of North Forsyth High School right here in Forsyth County!  I earned a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Western Carolina University (WCU), a Masters in Curriculum from Appalachian State University and finally headed back to my alma mater, WCU to earn my Administrative Licensure.  I have been an educator for the past 20 years.  I have taught third through seventh grade, served as an Instructional Facilitator and MTSS interventionist during my career.

In my personal life, I am a mom to two daughters, ages 11 and 15 and a silly dog who barks at leaves falling from the trees.  They keep me very busy between cheerleading and marching band!  I also serve as a troop leader for Girl Scouts (so let me know if you want cookies!).  When I am not doing all those things, my favorite thing to do is visit the mountains.  I love to tent camp, kayak down the river, or relax by a fire.  I enjoy hiking to  all the beautiful waterfalls our land has to offer.

I am excited to serve as an Assistant Principal at Flat Rock Middle School.  Middle school is my favorite group to work with.  They are a little crazy and quirky, but if you’ve ever seen me at the car rider line in the morning, you know I am too!  I believe that if students are shown respect, love and challenged they will rise to the high expectations we set out for them.  I look forward to a great school year!  .
