AP Language and Composition: As teachers of the English Language and Composition course, we like to think that summer vacation can offer learning opportunities that are less stressful and yet still valuable. Reading a good book is such an opportunity. Because the course focuses on analysis of argument and voice in a variety of genres of literature, the summer reading encourages you to begin thinking in a new way about what you read.
AP Literature and Composition: We are happy that you have taken on the rigor of an AP English class and applaud the commitment you have made. Because our focus is on helping prepare students for the AP English exam, we require that AP English: Literature and Composition students begin their AP study during the summer to address the following objectives:
To establish the expectation that reading texts for AP courses is a critical, meaningful process
To establish a shared reading experience to begin the year's rigorous academic work
