Welcome!
From Lisa & William Dull, PTSA Presidents
and Laura & Stan Dean, Booster Club Presidents
We welcome new and returning families to the RJR community and to the start of a new school year. In the words of former Principal Dr. Art Paschal, “it’s a great time to be at Reynolds High School”. RJR can already boast numerous great happenings, great offerings, and proud accomplishments. But as we look forward to a new era under new leadership, we want MORE!
Last year’s 12,000 volunteer hours and $120,000 fundraising total are certainly impressive, but our participation rates should be higher. Our community is comprised of more than 1,600 families, teachers, and staff members. We want to exceed last year’s results by increasing the number of participants rather than increasing individual averages. Let’s get behind our new principal and increase the number of memberships, volunteers, and fundraiser contributors by at least 25%. We challenge you, as members of the Reynolds community, to help us reach these goals. Set your own goals to participate, to attend, to share, and to give. Together we can do MORE!
ENGAGE MORE in your student’s educational experience. Research shows that family involvement in education improves student achievement, attendance, and behavior and increases graduation rates. Encourage your student to get involved in a club, activity, or sport. Use the Parent Assistant tool to track your student’s progress. Attend PTSA events and take other opportunities to meet and talk with teachers and coaches. Stay informed by reading PTSA newsletters, Pine Whispers, and checking the website. Join the PTSA. Your membership gives you a voice and a vote in PTSA affairs. It’s your tangible vote of support for the RJR PTSA and for education in general.
ENJOY MORE of what RJR has to offer. We have forty athletic teams, performing arts groups for every discipline, visual art displays throughout the building, two major productions a year, Key Club Follies, A Cappella Jam for Hope, and a tradition of winning academic teams. You don’t need to be a student to enjoy Reynolds High School. We encourage you to participate in these events. Reynolds offers excellent entertainment in a healthy, family environment at a reasonable cost.
SSHASHASHARE MORE of your time and talent. Parents, students, former parents, and alumni donate thousands of hours of service to RJR each year. But there is much more to be done. When every family serves one additional hour this year, it will equate to another fulltime staff person. Get started by completing a volunteer signup form. You may print one from our volunteer page.
GIVE MORE to our Legacy Fundraising Campaign. We exceeded our goal last year but still denied a number of valid funding requests. The SIT (School Improvement Team) is working to build and prioritize a list of needs that fall outside the usual SIT request parameters and are not supported by the current school system budget, a bond referendum, or any foreseeable future funding source. The Booster Club has identified additional athletic needs as well. We’ll know exactly how to direct any additional funds we raise this year. Many smaller donations are as effective as each large one.
Take the challenge to engage more, enjoy more, share more, and give more. If you do, we promise you’ll get more! And that’s a pretty cool thing. We look forward to seeing you on the campus, in the audience, and in the stands.
We are proud to be RJ Reynolds Demons!
