Wake Forest University professors and students developed a Genetics Education Outreach program using tomato plants as a model to teach principles of genetics and plant response to the environment. The exercise utilizes problem based learning to illustrate principles such as Mendelian genetics, form fitting function and the impact of the environment and genetics on diversity.
