Common Core & Essential Standards
 
Major changes are coming to North Carolina's curriculum in 2012-13 when teachers begin using the Common Core & Essential Standards.
 
The Common Core are national standards in reading and language arts and math that have been adopted by 45 states. The Essential Standards guide the curriculum in other subjects across North Carolina. Together they replace the N.C. Standard Course of Study.
 
The goal of the new standards is to provide a more rigorous curriculum and a deeper understanding of content. Throughout the summer we will be updating this site with more information about each subject.
