1. Theo Helm, director of marketing and communications, gave an update about the five student days added to the 2012-13 calendar. The N.C. General Assembly passed a law last summer adding the student days. Although there has been discussion about waivers or changing the law, the WS/FC school board added the five days (Nov. 5, Dec. 21, Jan. 22, Feb. 18, March 28) so that parents could make plans. You can see the updated calendar here: First semester and second semester.
2. Superintendent Don Martin gave a presentation about progress on construction projects paid for by bonds approved by voters in 2006 and 2008. Most of these projects have been finished with the opening of the new Career Center and Walkertown Middle-High School. The largest remaining project is the new elementary school to be built in Zone 1 between Hall-Woodward and Sedge Garden elementary schools. You can see a copy of the presentation by clicking here.
3. Dr. Martin also gave a presentation about what the anticipated 2012-13 budget will look like. The school board expects to have to make about $7.5 million in budget cuts for next school year. You can see a copy of the presentation by clicking here.
The next meeting is Feb. 21 in Room 219 of the Education Building. For more information, please call the Office of Marketing and Communications at 727-2696.
