Many exciting changes have and continue to take place within our district. Morgan Elementary opened its doors to students this year, and the final touches are being made to Walkertown Middle/High School and the Career Center. Many of you have worked directly or indirectly to make these schools inviting and a safe place for students to learn. You continue to be responsive to the needs of our schools; and for this, I am very appreciative.

The 2011-12 school year offers new challenges, especially as we deal with major budget shortfalls. How well we succeed as a district largely depends on your response to these challenges. We must continue to be united in preparing our children for life. More than ever, we must work together as a system to provide instruction and deliver services to our students — often requiring us to do more with less.

I thank you for your service to our district and for your commitment to the success of our students.Through your work ethic, your professionalism, and your caring, you influence the future of more than 52,000 children.

My best wishes in 2011-12 as together we move our district forward.
