In the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, eligibility for special education services in the area of Speech or Language Impaired is based on three prongs.  First, the student must be eligible for one or more of the following areas:  Articulation, Language, Voice, or Fluency.  Second, there must be a negative impact on the student's academic, social, and/or functional performance.  Third, there must be evidence that indicates a need for specially designed instruction.  More information on the specific areas of speech/language can be found on my website.
