At Hill, students enjoy an environment that is unlike most middle schools. Every day, they are offered opportunities to design, create and dream through the arts and by using the latest technology.
Hill offers more than an outstanding arts program. Teachers use innovative and proven methods that allow them to weave arts into all subject areas to promote academic excellence. They also have created a small school environment where students feel supported and part of a nurturing community.Above all, Hill strives for its students to be well-rounded,respectful and conscious of their role in society. The school's staff believes in making sure that its students have the vision, models and tools that they need for learning and to make the best choices for their lives as they approach adulthood.
Diverse Programs, One GoalHill provides unique programs to meet the diverse needs of our students. These offerings include the Arts and Technology Magnet Program, the Accelerated Program, and the Schoolwide Literacy Focus. Each program is designed to help enhance overall student performance.- The Arts and Technology Magnet Program allows teachers to facilitate arts-integrated instruction in every classroom. Every day, the teachers at Hill are infusing dance, theatre, visual arts, music, technology and 21st-century life skills and dispositions into class activities.
- The Accelerated Program begins two weeks before the regular opening of school to help students catch up and accelerate the pace of learning. Students also have access to additional interventional help as needed, such as after-school tutoring and special study skills classes. A co-teaching inclusion model is used for students who receive Exceptional Children (EC) services.
- The Schoolwide Literacy Focus allots at least 30 minutes every day to reading, writing, listening, critical thinking skills, analytical practice and a variety of higher-order thinking strategies. This instruction is in addition to students' core classes of math, science, social studies and English/language arts. The goal for all of these programs is to help each student reach his or her potential in a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment.
