
What is the difference between a blue and green zone?
With the opening of Flat Rock Middle and Kimmel Farm Elementary in the fall of 2009, the Board of Education approved plans to modify the zone choices for the schools in those zones. Instead of having 4 schools in a zone for middle and 6 for elementary, the Board created a Southwest ‘Blue’ and a Southwest ‘Green’, along with a respective Zone 8 ‘Blue’ and Zone 8 ‘Green’.
The colors referenced match those of the choice cards for students in the residential areas.
Now that the new elementary school is opening in Zone 1, there will be 6 schools in that zone, so it is being constructed into a ‘blue’ and ‘green’ areas as well for the 2013-14 school year.
