  •   How We Organize Ourselves  An inquiry into the interconnectedness of human-made systems and communities with a focus on people providing goods and services to satisfy a community
  •   Sharing the Planet  An inquiry into rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and with other living things with a focus on insects and their importance to our planet
  •   Where We Are in Place and Time  An inquiry into orientation in place and time with a focus on communities around the world and how they are connected

Student Profiles

Ashley Elementary adopts the student profiles of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme as the heart of our code of conduct.  The entire staff, parents, and students agree to embrace and uphold the ten PYP profiles.  The ten student profiles are: inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, well-balanced, and reflective.

Currently we are focusing on being Principled.  Principled learners  act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of the individual, groups and communities. They take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences that accompany them.

How can parents help to develop students who are Principled at home?

1. Have your child ask themselves if they are/are not principled and give reasons as to why. Ask them to think of ways they can better themselves.

2. Set a good example.

3. When your child acts in an unprincipled way or observes someone doing so, discuss the negative consequences and ways that they could have been prevented.

4.  Catch them being principled.  Tell them what they did that was good.  Express your approval.
