American High School Math Competition

This competition is held in February of each academic year as the AMC-10 and AMC-12 contests.  The target students for the AMC-10 are ninth or tenth grade PreCalculus students.  The target students for the AMC-12 are seniors having had AP Calculus AB or BC.  These contests consist of twenty-five question multiple choice exams to be done within a seventy-five minute time constraint.  No calculators are permitted.

The top five percent of the AMC-12 scorers nationally will qualify for the next competition called the American Invitational Math Exam (AIME). This is a fifteen question, three hour exam in which each answer is an integer between 0 and 999.

The top one percent of the AMC-10 scorers nationally will qualify for the AIME.
