Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools have been administering quarter test at the end of 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters in reading and math.  These assessments give students to opportunity to practice test-taking strategies as well as test their knowledge.  We encourage all students to do their best on all assessments (classroom and standardized).  The results provide feedback to students and teachers on the strengths and weaknesses.

We have additional benchmark testing in the areas of science and social studies.  These assessments are completed on-line.  They are administered twice during this school year during the regular science and social studies class periods.  The science benchmark testing is for the 7th grade students.  The social studies benchmark testing is for all three grades.

The state of North Carolina testing includes assessments in several areas.  The End-of-Grade (EOG) is administered to all three grades in reading and math.  There is an EOG in science for grade 8 only.  8th grade students in Algebra 1 classes will also take the Algebra 1 End-of-Course (EOC) test.  7th grade students will take four writing assessments during this school year.  Two writing assessments are in the content area of social studies and science.  The students are given the opportunity to research a topic provided by the state or WS/FCS.  The students will plan and organize their papers and write a rough draft.  They will type a final copy at school.  The ending result is to show the writing process.  The plan, rough draft and final copy will be placed in the students writing portfolio.  Two writing assessments are on-demand writing.  The students will be given a writing prompt from the state and will be given 90 minutes to plan, organize and type a rough draft.  The two on-demand pieces will also go into the students writing portfolios.
