East Forsyth Middle School provides an exciting and effective transition from elementary to middle school and from middle to high school. Students learn through their preferred learning style while strengthening other intelligences that are not used as often.
Students excel in core academic subjects and enforce elective subjects by participating in lessons designed to include several ways to facilitate effective learning. Features Include: Use of current Multiple Intelligence theory research to develop teaching strategies and student activities that enhance the eight intelligences: linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal and naturalist.
Activities and learning-style inventories to help students identify their strengths and preferred method of learning. Accommodating non-traditional talents by offering a wider variety of opportunities for success during the school day with cooperative learning groups, Paideia seminars, chess, dance, journalism.
Assessments which allow students to show what they have learned, such as oral presentations, demonstrations, projects, portfolios, etc. Opportunities for student leadership development through peer tutoring, peer mediation and conflict-resolution techniques.
Partnerships with Cash Elementary, a Multiple Intelligences school, for professional development for teachers using the "train the trainer" model, and joint student activities. Emphasis on community involvement to support school success.
